Final Shows in Western Canada (For the Foreseeable Future) by Paul Keely

You read that right. I'm moving East to set up shop, and I've no plans to head this far west again for some time now. So if you've been eyeing something at my booth, maybe you want to grab a custom horror frame, or you just want to say hi, my September prairie run will be your last chance!

First off is Saskatchewan Entertainment Expo on September 15 & 16 in Saskatoon. I'll be following that up the next weekend with the Edmonton Comic & Entertainment Expo September 21 to 23.

And here's the cool part: I won't be replenishing my stock before or during the shows. So what I've got is it. Some prints only have four or five copies left. Some have ONE. Some prints have literally the display copy left, and that's it.

So come on down and check out my booths, and maybe you'll be lucky and get the last of something!

In the mean time, stay tuned for details on future shows in the East. I am also planning on coming back for the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo in April. But who knows what I'll be making by then? WHO KNOWS?!

Otafest Cancellation by Paul Keely

Unfortunately I'm still not 100%, so I won't be attending Otafest. The rest of the gang from A Bunch of Artists will still be down there of course, so check them out!

My next show will be the Calgary Horror Con.

Military Museums Cancellation by Paul Keely

Siiiiiiick. Stupid sick. I unfortunately can't muster the energy to drag myself out of bed let alone down to the grounds. And if I can't put on a proper show for you folks, I don't want to waste everyone's time. Also, breathing is a struggle, so there is that as well. Hopefully I'll see everyone at Otafest, but for now I'm out of commission.

Otafest! by Paul Keely

For the first time in ever, I'll be attending Otafest! The Bunch of Artists crew will be running booth #114 and I'll have a corner or a wall or something set-up with a selection of my stuff. I am also seriously considering bringing a couple fantasy prints out of retirement for this show, since this is likely going to be my only kick at Otafest. So come on down, May 18 - 20 (I'll be there on Friday and Saturday ONLY) and grab some loot from A Bunch of Artists (And Me).

Convention Calendar Updated by Paul Keely

What is up folks and folkettes, my convention calendar for 2018 has been updated to its most current state. Five confirmed shows and several tentative and pending (will be listed soon ish). Probably not going to beat last year's dirty dozen run, but maybe... maybe...

I Know I'm Human... by Paul Keely

A new poster for the gallery! John Carpenter's sciifi horror classic The Thing, a yearly Halloween staple and one of the best horror movies of its kind. There are movies with atmosphere, and there are movies with amazing gore and special effects, and there are movies with amazing acting. But this one crammed them all together in a claustrophobic, paranoia infested Antarctic hell. It's a film that stands the test of time, and will undoubtedly continue to do so for decades to come.

Heroes Don't Fear the Dark by Paul Keely

What lurks in the dark? JESUS CHRIST IT'S LITERALLY NIGHTMARES AND THEY HAVE SPEAR HANDS! Dead Space is one of my favourite games, a masterclass on horror video game design. The structure, the setting, the sound design, the level design, everything is built in such a perfectly balanced way to guide you through a nightmare.

And then Dead Space 2 and 3 happened and eeeeh they're still pretty solid games, but nowhere near the highs of Dead Space.

And so, here's a poster. Enjoy!

Changes! Picture of the Week & Stuff by Paul Keely

Greetings folks! So, check this out: 2017 is coming to an end, which means it's time for features to start winding down. POW is done for the year while I shuffle some stuff around with it. I know, it's been an unbroken streak of a couple years, but skipping the last three "technical" days for POW will allow me time to set up the start for next year.

What is POW doing next year, you ask? Well, it's growing. Instead of a two day a week thing, it'll be moving to three days a week, shunting from Wed/Sat to Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Three times the pictures, one times the weeks. I suppose I'll need a new acronym. P('S)OW?

...I'll figure it out.

This also means New Art Mondays will shuffle a bit, bumping to every second Saturday as my output allows. Which means NAM is now NAS! Say goodbye New Art Mondays, say hello Network Attached Storage--I mean New Art Saturdays! Or maybe I'll call it the New Art Weekend.

Ah, Hell NAW.

Damn, did I just accidentally name my new feature? I think I may have.

Everything else will stay the same, which is to say, "whenever." Because you can't reschedule something that isn't scheduled to begin with.

There will also be an increased focus on social media, primarily Instagram which will become my central hub for most first run content. Everything will filter from there to Facebook and Twitter, so if you're looking for the latest and greatest you'll need to head on over to your social media of choice and give @pkdigitalarts a follow. Everything will continue to post to the website, so don't worry if you're not into the 'gram, but it'll be on a slightly modified schedule.

In the mean time, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, all that fun stuff. And see you next year, where I will run myself ragged producing AS MUCH ART AS I POSSIBLY CAN.

You ever start making smores and next thing you know you're just eating chocolate while burning marshmallows? Yeah, I can't remember the last time I actually ATE smores. But I can remember the last time I stared deep into the crimson flames as they washed across the shores of molten sugar, charring them into a crisp oblivion. I've seen things, man.

Also, check this out: it's the final POW post of the year! Yes, there are a couple more pow's technically, but there are some changes to the Picture of the Week I want to make for the new year, so I'm finishing off with a nice even number (this one completes Volume 5) to end the year, then I'll be starting up the new POW next year.

Changes! Just In Time For 2018 by Paul Keely

2017 is coming to a close, and I'm taking a much needed break. No more posts (they're all scheduled), no more shows (they're all done), no more work for the last few weeks of the year. I broke 10,000 kilometres (10,700 in total) in the course of hitting a dozen shows across BC, Alberta, Saskatoon, and Manitoba. Slept in half a dozen hotels and hostels, and three gas station parking lots. Crossed four provinces. I sleep now.

It also means that with 2018 right around the corner, there are some changes coming down the internet tubes. Namely a shift in focus. While the ol' blog here has been serving me well for the past few years, it's time for an update. Starting in January the blog will be going away (kind of), and the focus will be shifting to social media. Content will still hit the site of course, but it will be a more structured, or if you prefer "curated," approach.

Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter will be the new wild west. Everything will hit there, then if I like it enough it will bounce to the website. And as always, conventions get first look at anything new. The blog will be replaced with a social hub, where content posted to Instagram will appear as it is posted. So pretty much the same as things are now. Really the only major thing affected will be Picture of the Week. Which will be affected A LOT.

How "a lot" you ask? Well, think of it as a sort of reboot. It's been over two and a half years since POW#0001 hit the site. In that time I've tweaked pretty much all of them, completely redone some of them, and utterly replaced a few of them. Some of them I haven't actually really looked at in ages, and most of them have descriptions and spiels that probably haven't actually been seen. Like ever.

So, I'm starting at POW#0001 and unleashing them on the world! Again! The last few of 2017 will go live, hitting a satisfying #250. At which point they'll take a break for a week or so, then they'll be moving from Wed/Sat to Mon/Wed/Sat (with digital stuff falling pretty much whenever I happen to put something together) and starting from scratch. I'm looking forward to revisiting the POW archives and unleashing them on a whole new audience. It will also allow me to shift my focus onto some other major projects I want to tackle.

What other projects, you ask? Well, a few months down the road I will be doing what I like to call "I Don't Have A Name For It Yet" where every month I'll be featuring a different gallery subject in greater detail. At present the galleries are snapshots of subjects that interest me, featuring a small selection of photos. With IDHANFIT the gallery will feature all sorts of stuff. Photos I think are my best, photos that aren't but that interest me, alternate angles and takes, and shots I wouldn't otherwise post, mixed in with assorted thoughts and musings. Fun fact: Did you know I have about 7000 photos of jousts, knights, and medieval fights and faires? Yeah, there's some cool stuff in there to show off.

So every month you can swing by, load up the featured gallery, and check out an array of old, new, and interesting shots. No matter where you follow me, there'll be something new for you to see. 2018 is all about FILLING YOUR EYEBALLS WITH PICTURES AND IMAGES and so long as there's internet there's no stopping me!

Also check out my finally functioning store! You can buy things even when I'm not strung out on caffeine! Wait... you can buy things whenever you want now even when I'm not in a booth!

In the mean time, enjoy your assorted Holidays!
